Hebrews 10:26-31
In Hebrews 10:26-31, the author, after encouraging the people to hold fast to their confession, offers a warning to all of those who turn away from Christ. Ultimately, the sin of apostasy is worse than any other. Not only that, but apostasy under the New Covenant is much worse than that under the Old. Here is the warning: do not turn away from Christ. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Proverbs 1:20-33
In Proverbs 1:20-33, Solomon describes the call of the enigmatic figure, Wisdom. Who is this Wisdom who appears again in chapters 8 and 9? In this text we learn that Wisdom will pour out the Spirit and make the one who heeds her know the Word. These are the actions of God, making Wisdom equal to God and, as is clear from the passage in chapter 8, the Son of God. Solomon makes it clear that attaining to Wisdom means…
Hebrews 10:19-25
In Hebrews 10:19-25 the author begins his final exhortation. In light of everything he has said about Christ and the entrance we through him to God and His exalted priesthood, how are you to live? What are the implications for the Christian life? They are this: You must draw near to God in Christ, hold fast to your confession, and seek to stir up other Christians to love and good works.
Proverbs 1:8-19 (Part 2)
In Proverbs 1:8-19 Solomon begins his instructions to his son. In this world there are many temptations that we face and our children face. How are we to resist temptations? How are you to instruct your children so that they are able to resist them? Solomon here gives a warning to his son explaining the kinds of things he will face, explaining what a gang might say, how they will try to entice him, and why they should not be…
Hebrews 10:11-18
In Hebrews 10:11-18 the author brings the longest theological section of the book to a close. Summing up his previous arguments he notes that the priests stand each day offering the same sacrifices that cannot take away sins, whereas Christ has once and for all been seated at the right hand of the Father, having definitively completed His work. All of this forms the basis for the exhortations to follow: Since we have a great high priest, let us hold…
Proverbs 1:8-19 (Part 1)
In Proverbs 1:8-19 Solomon begins his instructions to his son. Throughout the book of Proverbs there is an emphasis on instruction within the family, particularly parents to children. As was the case in Solomon’s day, there is a great temptation to listen to a peer group rather than to parents. Godliness in the home entails careful instruction of children concerning temptations to sin and obedient children who heed their parents’ advice rather than their friends’.
Hebrews 10:1-10
In Hebrews 10:1-10 the author contrasts the efficacy of the blood of bulls and goats to that of Christ. The blood of bulls and goats could not take away sins, but Christ, as the Son of God who became man, is able to cleanse all those who come to Him from their sins. Pastor Grasso highlights in this way the significance of the incarnation for atonement.
Proverbs 1:1-7
Pastor Grasso begins a series on Proverbs where he explains the significance of wisdom. Wisdom is related to knowledge but goes beyond it. It is related to righteous living. It is related to leadership in the family, church, and society. It is related to foresight in building. Wisdom is more valuable than gold, but how does one find it? The answer: the fear of the Lord.
