Sermons on God's Call
Proverbs 1:20-33
In Proverbs 1:20-33, Solomon describes the call of the enigmatic figure, Wisdom. Who is this Wisdom who appears again in chapters 8 and 9? In this text we learn that Wisdom will pour out the Spirit and make the one who heeds her know the Word. These are the actions of God, making Wisdom equal to God and, as is clear from the passage in chapter 8, the Son of God. Solomon makes it clear that attaining to Wisdom means…
Deuteronomy 30:11-20
In Deuteronomy 30:11-20 Moses gives his concluding exhortations to the people of God to choose life. He emphasizes that the Word of God is not far off or difficult. It is near, even in our very mouths. This Word is even nearer to us through Christ who came down from heaven and died in our place. Moses then places life and death before the people. Song of Songs 2:8-17
In the Song of Songs 2:8-17 the Shulamite describes the call of her beloved. Her desire is to be with him and thus she responds by declaring her exclusive love for him. This passage shows the need for men to pursue women in relationships, but even more, it shows God’s pursuit of His people and their need to respond to Him in love. God calls you by the preaching of the gospel. Turn and be saved.
