Dr. Grasso explains why the Davidic Covenant is so significant for our understanding of how the OT speaks of Christ. This significance can be seen in Peter’s use of 2 Samuel 7 in the first gospel sermon in Acts 2. Here Peter shows that the Davidic Covenant is foundational for a messianic interpretation of many OT texts. This position on the Davidic Covenant is directly opposed to mainstream scholarship which says that the OT is not about the Messiah at all. What Christians must recognize in light of this is that these positions are incompatible. The battle lines are drawn. No compromise can be made. The challenge of critical scholarship must be met and it must be shown that the OT and the Davidic Covenant in particular are directly and inherently about the Messiah.
